Harold Briggs ©Stars and StripesFrankfurt, Germany, August, 1948: Mildred Gillars, also known as "Axis Sally," leaves for Washington to face trial. At right is her escort, WOJC Katherine Samaha. Gillars, who made propaganda broadcasts to allied troops on behalf of the Nazis during World War II, was to be joined in the inquiry by her Pacific counterpart, "Tokyo Rose." Gillars was convicted of treason and imprisoned until 1961.
