CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — An Okinawa-based Marine was arrested over the weekend in the assault of a local man at a Chatan bar.

Lance Cpl. Hunter Bondurant, 20, of the III Marine Expeditionary Force, is suspected of striking the unnamed Okinawan in the head from behind with a pool stick at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, said Okinawa Police deputy chief Eiji Hirata.

The victim, 25, suffered head injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening, Hirata said. He was able to call the police on his own.

Bondurant, who is stationed at Camp Hansen, was arrested in the bar’s parking lot. Police declined to say at which bar the incident took place.

Bondurant was drunk at the time of the incident, Hirata said.

“We will find out more details as the investigation starts sometime today,” Hirata said.
