CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Twelve base clubs and lodges on Okinawa have been named among the best in the Marine Corps.

Marine Corps Community Services on Friday presented the Food and Hospitality Excellence Awards for fiscal year 2006 operations.

The 12 facilities were among 37 MCCS activities at nine installations to be judged “excellent.”

Receiving the awards were: Awase Meadows Restaurant; Beachhead Consolidated Club at Camp Schwab; Camp Butler Officer’s Club; Corpsman’s Cove on Camp Lester; Globe and Anchor Enlisted Club on Camp Foster; Habu Pit Consolidated Club on MCAS Futenma; Surfside Consolidated Club on Camp Kinser; and Palms Consolidated Club on Camp Hansen.

Awards also went to Camp Courtney Lodge; Camp Hansen Lodge; Oura Wan Beach Cottages at Camp Schwab; and WestPac Lodge on Camp Foster.

James Garringer, MCCS Okinawa’s food and hospitality director, said Okinawa operations have steadily improved, from four facilities named in 2001 to 11 in 2005 and this year’s 12.

“New menu ideas, facility renovations, creative programming, and upgraded amenities distinguish the recipients of this year’s Food and Hospitality Excellence Awards,” he said.

A panel from the Personal and Family Readiness Division of MCCS Headquarters judged the facilities.
