The list of walks is still pretty short this week, but if you do get out for a walk, why not head to Jebenhausen, Germany? This event is a Stammtisch walk for the Stuttgart German American Wandering Club. Look for the club’s blue flag at a table in the start hall and introduce yourself to these avid volksmarchers.

One of the most popular volksmarch events in Europe is rapidly approaching. The medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber is hosting its 34th annual weekend of walking, both through the city and around the neighboring countryside.

This exciting weekend is still a month away (Feb. 25-26), but we mention it now so you can plan ahead. There are plenty of quaint, little guest houses in Rothenburg where you can spend the night, but they will fill quickly as the date approaches.

We have already made our reservations at our favorite spot and look forward to a busy weekend of walking. We plan to drive down Thursday and walk the permanent trail Friday as a warm-up for Saturday.

The Heidelberg International Wandering Club is putting together a very nice weekend trip for this event. After attending the Rothenburg walk on Saturday, club members will spend the night in the nearby town of Dinkelsbühl.

Sunday morning they will drive to Muhr am See to walk one of the permanent trails before heading to the Spalt brewery for a tour.

If you would like to join them, contact Rob and Cath Floyd at thefloyds@t-online.de. They will answer any questions and give you information about how to pay. The cut-off date for registration is tomorrow, Jan. 20, so hurry.

If you want to go to Rothenburg with the Stuttgart German-American Wandering Club, contact Dal Pettaway at dalcita@hotmail.com. The club already has filled one bus and has started to fill another, so get in touch soon. They will be going on Feb. 25.

The Ramstein Roadrunners also will be taking a busload to Rothenburg that Saturday. Contact Gene Behrends (parrotdad@hotmail.com) for times, prices and more information.

E-mail volksmarch information to two.walkers@yahoo.com. Mail brochures to Bob and Lorraine Huffaker, CMR 460, Box 278, APO AE 09752.
