Hold your fire! In a manner of speaking. There are several common sense things to keep in mind when you handle torches on a torch walk. First, keep a safe distance between walkers. Second, if it is windy, watch for flying sparks, and ladies, tie back or cover your hair!

Next, cut a hole in an old beer coaster and slide it on the torch handle to shield your hand from melting wax and wear an old glove in case the wax still gets through.

Last, have fun! Watching the trail of torches weaving along the trail ahead and behind you can be a very special sight on a cool autumn evening.

As much fun as a torch walk is, it is not a good walk to bring your dog on. Let Rover sit this one out.
