Chocolate WeekAntwerp, Belgium Dates: March 2-11 Cocoa-infused treats from chocolates to coffee to ice cream can be sampled on a self-charted trail of discovery through the city’s cafes and shops. The goodies are obtained by means of a Chocolate Pass containing 10 coupons which may be redeemed at the shops of around 20 participating vendors. The pass also contains an entry ticket to an exhibition titled “Antwerp Salt & Sweet” at the old post building. Admission: A Chocolate Pass goes for 10 euros; treats cost one or two coupons each. CruftsNational Exhibition Center, North Ave, Marston Green, Birmingham B40 1NT, England Dates: March 8-11 (8:15 a.m.-6:30 p.m. daily; Best in Show program on March 11 runs until 9 p.m.) The world’s largest dog show offers the chance to meet, greet and discover around 200 breeds of pedigree dogs, take in displays and competitions, and find products and services for four-legged friends at more than 400 exhibitor stands. Different groups of dogs compete in the show rings (working and pastoral March 8; terriers and hounds March 9; utility and toy breeds March 10; gundogs March 11). Scruffts is a competition for mixed breed dogs across six categories. Admission: General admission tickets cost 16.20 pounds adults; 11.88 pounds ages 9-15, and are free for ages eight and under. The Village -Whisk(e)y Messe NuernbergHalle 10, Nuernberg Messe, Messezentrum 1, 90471 Nuremberg, Germany Dates: March 3-4 (9:30 a.m.-6 p.m.) One of the biggest whisky meet-ups in Europe sees about 80 distillers, bottlers and importers present more than 2,000 different whiskies from 14 countries. The Pueblo del Ron (Rum Pueblo) is the place to discover more than 150 rums from more than 20 countries, served in a Caribbean-beach inspired atmosphere. Other products presented onsite include cigars, beers and sweets. Salmon, Irish stew and haggis are on the menu for when hunger strikes. The event runs parallel to a fair dedicated to tourism, caravanning and gardening. Admission: Entry is limited to those ages 18 and above. Visitors must have a ticket to the “Freizeit” tourism fair at a cost of 11.50 euros, plus a supplemental ticket at a cost of 5 euros. The price includes a tasting glass. Master chocolatiers from across the land dazzle and tempt with cocoa-based creations in the form of pralines, truffles, hot chocolate, cute figures, works of art and more. Sagra del Mandorlo in Fiore/ Almond Blossom FestivalAgrigento, Sicily, Italy Dates: March 3-11 The blossoming of the almond trees is celebrated with parades, concerts, cooking demos, and a folklore festival featuring performances by top-level ensembles from different countries, including many children’s groups. Admission: Entry to the folklore shows at the Palacongressi costs 5-15 euros. Entry to the Valley of the Temples costs 10 euros adults; those under 18 enter free.
