Fab Curry Buffet is one of those restaurants you wander by and always wonder what the food is like and never really get around to going to or finding out.

I had no plans for eating at Fab Curry Buffet, but unbeknownst to me, the soba noodle place that I was going to eat at didn’t open until 5 p.m., which didn’t help me one bit seeing that it was lunchtime and my stomach was growing restless.

So I started driving and ended up at the Sunabe Sea Wall, one of my favorite places in Okinawa.

I parked, walked a few blocks, looked up and saw Fab’s giant yellow building, and figured now was as good a time as any to try their curry.

Perched above a surf shop, the restaurant has commanding views of the turquoise waters of the East China Sea.

Fab Curry Buffet features a lunch and dinner buffet, but you can also order specific types of curries should you not want to gorge yourself at the buffet.

I never imagined that I would come to Okinawa and fall in love with curry.

I thought I would come here and be seduced by the many varieties of sushi; sadly, this has not happened in the year since I arrived.

But curry certainly has my attention, and the curries that are offered at Fab Curry Buffet are no exception.

They offer six different curries from around the world, and the day I went featured curries from Thailand and India.

I packed my plate with sticky rice and then loaded up on chicken curry, some beef curry, and a small helping of a “hot” beef and green pea curry that was delicious.

I headed over to the long bench and ate to my heart’s content staring at the snorkelers swimming around in what is arguably some of the best snorkeling waters on Okinawa.

Looking around at the packed restaurant, I realized that I was the only non-Japanese person eating there, which to me is a good sign that the food is well respected in the community.

I hate to admit it, but it was so good that I headed back to the buffet in true American style and helped myself to seconds.

Needless to say, I couldn’t fit in the fruit salad and plain yogurt that is offered for dessert. Next time, I said to myself.

What more can I say, other than if you are looking for some truly great curries to try, this should be your first stop. If you are addicted to the chain curry restaurants like so many Americans are, then you should definitely give Fab Curry Buffet a try.

You will not be disappointed, especially if you combine it with a nice day and stare out over the East China Sea.
