Roger Ruhlin ©Stars and StripesFrankfurt, West Germany, February, 1952: Baseball notables John "Jocko" Conlan, left, and Jack Coombs go through customs after arriving at the Rhein-Main airport on their way to EUCOM's annual baseball clinic at Garmisch. Conlan was one of the game's top umpires for 24 seasons, and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1974. Coombs was about to begin his 24th and final season as head coach at Duke University, where his team would post a 31-7 record to give him a final career mark of 381-171-3. He also compiled a 159-110 record as a major league pitcher; in 1910, he was 31-9 for the Philadelphia Athletics with 13 shutouts and added three wins over the Cubs in the World Series.
