The Defense Department identified the sailor found dead Saturday in Djibouti as 22-year-old constructionman Trevor J. Stanley, according to a Pentagon press release. Stanley’s death was the result of a noncombat-related incident, Navy officials have said.

He was found Saturday by co-workers in the Seabees’ equipment yard on Camp Lemonnier. The incident is under investigation.

Stanley, from Virginia Beach, Va., was a member of a forward deployed battalion of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3 and stationed in Rota, Spain. His detachment deployed to Djibouti, under U.S. Africa Command in support of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, in early February for a scheduled six-month deployment to conduct humanitarian and civil affairs missions.

A memorial service was held Tuesday morning at Camp Lemonnier. Another will be held Friday at the base in Rota for battalion members, a Navy spokesman said.

Stanley enlisted in the Navy in April 2009. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal and Pistol Marksmanship Medal.
