A decorated Marine master sergeant died Saturday from injuries he sustained during combat operations in Afghanistan, military officials said.

Master Sgt. Aaron C. Torian, 36, of Paducah, Ky., died after being wounded in Helmand province, the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command said.

Torian assigned to 2d Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Special Operations Regiment, MARSOC, based at Camp Lejeune. He joined the Marine Corps in March 2003. In 2006, he joined MARSOC and was named 2nd Marine Division's noncommissioned officer of the year for 2005.

He was promoted to master sergeant in September 2013.

His awards include the Purple Heart, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon with gold star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with three stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign and the Good Conduct Medal.
