SPANGDAHLEM AB, Germany — A memorial service is scheduled Wednesday for a 24-year-old airman who died last weekend after being found unresponsive in his room a couple of days earlier.

During a surprise dormitory inspection April 7, base officials knocked on the door of Airman 1st Class Jamie Korrek, according to a 52nd Fighter Wing news release. Superiors found Korrek to be “incoherent and unresponsive” and had him taken to a local German hospital where his condition worsened, the release said.

While he battled for his life, Korrek’s parents were notified, giving them enough time to get to Germany and their son’s bedside, the release said. Korrek, a member of the 52nd Civil Engineer Squadron, was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

The memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Spangdahlem base theater. For more information, call DSN 452-5388 or 06565-61-5388.
