Guam High’s Sheedy to take running game to higher level

Emma Sheedy, the reigning Guam all-island cross-country champion and former national 800 and 1,500 champion, has committed to St. Thomas Aquinas College, a Division II school in Sparkill, just outside New York City.

Sheedy signed a National Letter of Intent committing her to the Spartans for the 2018-19 school year as a cross country and track and field distance runner. Sheedy also has earned a partial academic grant-in-aid from the school.

Originally from upstate New York, Sheedy has spent most of her formative years overseas, including the last nine on Guam, where she blossomed as a cross country and track and field star. Sheedy also played for the Panthers’ softball team as a corner infielder.

Off the track and off the field, Sheedy has worked in local media as a student editor for Guam High’s journalism program and the Guam Pacific Daily News, and as a photographer, videographer and reporter for Guam Sports Network, an online media platform.

Sheedy is also a reigning beauty queen, having been crowned last June as Miss Earth Guam, an environmentally-friendly beauty pageant. An environmentalist, Sheedy spends much time campaigning for clean oceans and beaches online and engages in beach cleanups around the island year-round.
