Red Grandy ©Stars and StripesWheelus Field, Libya, August, 1955: Sabrejets of the 50th Fighter-Bomber Wing, from Hahn Air Base in Germany, take to the skies over Tripoli during the first annual U.S. Air Forces in Europe gunnery competition. The meet was run in three phases: Air-to-air and air-to-ground firing; special weapons; and rocket competition. Each team of six planes was allowed 5,000 pounds of logistic equipment and 25 supporting personnel.
