Ray Mahon ©Stars and StripesSouth Vietnam, October, 1966: A UH-1E helicopter approaches the landing zone to deliver supplies and evacuate U.S. Marines wounded in the battle for Hill 484, near the DMZ. According to the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association website, 14 months after the photo was taken this aircraft — tail number 152434 — crashed into a mountainside in Quang Nam Province in reduced visibility, killing all four crew members. They were Capt. Gary Lloyd England, of Greenvale, N.Y.; 2nd Lt. Robert Isaac Terry III, of Corpus Christi, Texas; Cpl. August Harold Monhof, of Coldwater, Mich.; and Gunnery Sgt. Frank Ernest Morey Jr., of Brimfield, Mass. Their names are engraved on Panel 31E of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
