William Montague (Department of Veterans Affairs)

CLEVELAND — A former director of the Veterans Affairs medical centers in Cleveland and Dayton has pleaded not guilty to additional federal charges in a bribery case.

William Montague of Brecksville entered the plea Wednesday after an expanded 65-count indictment was issued last week. He's charged with taking bribes in exchange for influencing VA decisions on more than $1 billion in contracts. The additional charges in the superseding indictment include conspiracy and mail and wire fraud.

The Plain Dealer reports a magistrate is allowing Montague to remain free on $100,000 bond while preparing for trial next spring.

A message seeking comment was left for his attorney.

Montague led the Cleveland VA Medical Center from 1995 to 2010 and the Dayton VA Medical Center for part of 2011.
