Veterans Day events at Pacific bases
Yongsan Garrison: The Korea district of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a ceremony honoring U.S. veterans at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the 8th Army War Memorial. The event includes a ceremony conducted by the United Nations Command Honor Guard and floral tributes by senior military officials and civilian dignitaries.
Camp Carroll: A wreath-laying ceremony is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hill 303 Memorial, in front of Building 338.
Kadena Air Base: A traditional military Veterans Day service will be held at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the 18th Wing Headquarters Building flagpole. Navy veteran Harry J. Thomas will be the guest speaker. Dress is uniform of the day for military members and business casual for civilians.
Misawa Air Base: Ornaments will be made for Our Heroes’ Tree at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Overstreet Memorial Library. Bring a photo of the veteran you’d like to honor. Participants can also submit a story about the veteran for the ornament.
Veterans Day essay and poster contest winners will be announced Saturday. Elementary, middle and high school students were eligible.
Yokosuka Naval Base: An "Honoring All Who Served" ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the C-2 Auditorium. Retired Master Chief and VFW Post 1054 past post commander Mike Lutman will be the guest speaker. For more information, call DSN 243-8309.
Yokota Air Base: The American Legion will hold a ceremony at the Officers’ Club Memorial Garden from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9555 will hold a ceremony at Nina Circle from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Both events are free and open to the public.
