Carnival celebrations take over Rotterdam’s city center Friday and Saturday. The huge event is expected to attract more than 900,000 visitors from throughout Europe, who will flock to the city to enjoy the party’s South American flair.
Highlights include the Battle of Drums beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday and a huge parade that kicks off at 1 p.m. Saturday. On Saturday night, live band performances and dance shows stretch into the late hours. The area known as Coolsingel lies at the heart of the action.
