French region offers more than World War I battle sites
Stars and Stripes May 29, 2008
History buffs will be fascinated with the World War I memorabilia featured in last week's Stripes European Travel section. But the northeast region of France offers far more than battle sites, war cemeteries and museums.
The cities of Reims, Metz and Nancy have lots to explore. Visit Champagne cellars, magnificent cathedrals and outstanding architecture from rococo to art nouveau. Take time out for shopping and check out the factory outlets in the region.
If all that is too tiring, chill out with a day at the spa in Vittel.
