SASEBO NAVAL BASE — Seaman Jesus Carlos Arango Villareyes, 22, a USS Juneau crewmember, was formally charged with larceny Friday by the Nagasaki District Prosecutor’s Office in Sasebo.
Villareyes was arrested Jan. 16 for suspicion of shoplifting, a Nagasaki Prefectural Police spokesman said.
He’s accused of stealing a down jacket and 15 other items worth about $300 from a store in Shimanose town.
He will remain in Japanese custody until his trial, base officials said.
