This year, the United Service Organizations is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
According to the USO website, President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1941 pushed to unite several service associations into one organization designed to lift the morale of the U.S. military community. Since then, the USO has been in service to the nation’s military and families in the U.S. and overseas.
Comedian Bob Hope was among the first celebrities to take part in USO Shows for the troops overseas, a tradition he continued for more than 50 years.
