Soldiers with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment underwent advanced weapons training this month in preparation for their deployment to Afghanistan as advisers to the Afghan security forces. A portion of the training involved preparing for possible insider attacks, when Afghans turn their weapons on coalition members or their fellow Afghans. Training was heavy on defensive firing techniques. In the words of one U.S. officer, “It’s almost been about two weeks of shooting, nonstop shooting.”
