Thank you for your service — the pancakes are on us!

To mark Veterans Day on Wednesday, restaurants around the country are treating vets to free and discounted meals.

Some specials are only for vets; others are available for active-duty and retired troops. Call ahead to make sure your local places are participating. Most ask for specific proof of military service.

Before you order, make sure what is included in the deal. For example, drinks and tips are often not covered.

Offers listed here are good Nov. 11 unless otherwise noted.

Applebee’s: Free meal from limited menu for veterans and active duty.

BD’s Mongolian Grill: From Nov. 5-11, vets and military get stir-fry for half price.

Bob Evans: Free breakfast items off select menu for veterans and active military.

Burger King: Discounts vary; show military ID and ask for details.

California Pizza Kitchen: Free entree from special menu for veterans and active military.

Carrabba’s: Free appetizer Nov. 9-11 for active duty and veterans.

Cheeseburger in Paradise: Free All-American burger with fries for veterans and active duty.

Chili’s: Free meal from select menu for vets and active duty.

Cinnabon: 15 percent off for veterans.

Cracker Barrel: Free slice of double chocolate fudge Coca-Cola cake to dine-in veterans.

Denny’s: Free Grand Slam breakfast 5 a.m.-noon for vets and active duty.

Friendly’s: Free breakfast, lunch or dinner from a limited menu for vets and active military.

Glory Days: Free appetizer or wings for veterans.

Golden Corral: Free dinner from 5-9 p.m. Nov. 11 for all military, National Guard and Reserves.

Hooters: Free meal (up to $10.99) with a drink purchase for veterans and active duty.

IHOP: Free Red, White and Blue pancakes 7 a.m.-7 p.m. for vets and active duty.

Krispy Kreme: Free doughnut and small coffee to veterans.

Little Caesars: Free $5 Hot-n-Ready lunch combo 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for veterans and active duty.

Longhorn Steakhouse: Free Texas Tonion appetizer and non-alcoholic beverage from a select menu for vets, active troops.

Max & Erma’s: Free cheeseburger combo meal with dessert for vets and active duty.

McCormick and Schmick’s: Free lunch or dinner entree Nov. 8 for veterans from special menu.

Olive Garden: Free meal from limited menu for vets and active duty.

On the Border: Free “Create Your Own Combo” meal for veterans and active duty.

Outback Steakhouse: Free Bloomin’ Onion and a beverage for on Tuesday. Outback is also offering active and former servicemembers 15 percent off their meals Nov. 12-Dec. 31.

Panera Bread: Free You Pick 2 for vets, active duty.

Ponderosa: Active duty and vets get free buffet (without beverage) from 4 p.m. to closing.

Red Lobster: Free appetizer or dessert from a limited menu Nov. 9-12 for all military.

Red Robin: Free Red’s Tavern double burger with Bottomless Steak Fries for vets and active duty.

7-Eleven: Free small Slurpee for all military and family members.

Sheetz: Free lunch and free car wash for veterans.

Shoney’s: Free All-American burger and fries to veterans and active duty.

Sizzler: Free lunch from a limited menu until 4 p.m. Nov. 11 for active duty, vets.

Smokey Bones: Free meal from special menu for veterans.

Spaghetti Warehouse: Buy one lunch or dinner entrée, get one free for vets and active duty Nov. 9-11.

Starbucks: Free tall coffee for all military, veterans and spouses.

Texas Roadhouse: Free lunch from special menu for all military.

TGI Friday’s: Free lunch 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for current military and veterans.

Tim Horton’s: Free doughnut for active duty and veterans.

Travel Centers of America: Free meal (up to $15) for truck drivers who are veterans.

Tubby’s: Free small Grilled Steak N’ Cheese or Tubby’s Famous Sub for vets, active duty. Take-out only.

Uno’s: Free entree or pizza with purchase of entree or pizza for vets and military.

White Castle: Free breakfast slider and small coffee or beverage for veterans.

Zoe’s Kitchen: Free entrée for vets, active duty, and 10 percent off for family members.
