RAF MILDENHALL, England — The airman who died in a weekend car crash has been identified as Staff Sgt. Anderson Johnson from Temple, Texas.
Johnson, 24, an electrical system journeyman with the 100th Civil Engineer Squadron at RAF Mildenhall, England, died at the scene after a Honda Civic crashed into a tree around 2 a.m. at the junction of highways A1304 and A11 northbound near Newmarket, officials said.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, Cambridgeshire police said.
Col. Kenneth T. Bibb Jr., 100th Air Refueling Wing Commander, said in a news release that the cause of the crash was still being investigated. A weather report from the station closest to Newmarket showed that it was raining around the time of the crash.
Johnson is survived by his wife, Markeah Johnson, parents and two siblings.
“He was a wonderful husband, son, brother, family member, child of God and friend,” Johnson’s family said in the release. “We want to thank all of you for taking care of him and loving him while he was with you.”
No date has been announced for Johnson’s memorial service at the base.
