A day after a lone gunman killed 12 people at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., a small group of people gathered for a vigil outside the gates on September 17, 2013. Holding candles in paper cups, the members took turns speaking to the small gathering, asking for gun “sense.” Among the group was Neil Heslin, the father of a first grader who was killed in Newton, Conn., almost a year ago, and D.C. councilmember Tommy Wells.
