Two naval aviators ejected from their aircraft and were safely recovered after a mishap aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower off Virginia’s coast, the U.S. Navy said.

The incident occurred around 6:18 p.m. Monday during aircraft recovery operations aboard the ship, the service announced on X that evening.

The aviators, assigned to Carrier Air Wing 3, were recovered by search-and-rescue personnel and returned to the carrier, where they were being evaluated, the Navy said.

Four other sailors aboard the Eisenhower were injured in the mishap and were receiving medical care, the service said. One was being taken to a Norfolk-area hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.

The Navy did not immediately identify the aircraft involved or provide details about what caused the mishap.
