President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday establishing the “Presidential Military Spouse Commission” to address challenges faced by military spouses.
The new commission will develop policies to improve military spouses’ “overall well-being” and “quality of life” by addressing challenges, they face such as housing, employment, health care, education and deployment-related support, according to the order.
“We wouldn’t have the strongest military in the world without our REMARKABLE military spouses. They make extraordinary sacrifices for our country,” the White House said in an X post Monday.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s wife, Jennifer, will serve as the commission’s chair, according to the order. The commission’s membership will include the spouses of high-ranking military leaders.
The commission will operate for two years from the date the order was signed, unless extended by the president, the order states.
