KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Tribune News Service) — A military vehicle caused an eight-vehicle crash on I-94, police said following an initial investigation.
The crash happened on the morning of Monday, Oct. 6, and involved a military vehicle, a semi tractor-trailer and passenger vehicles, Michigan State Police said.
The driver of the military vehicle lost control after changing lanes, striking a semi, which then hit three passenger vehicles, causing a chain reaction with three more vehicles, police said after the initial investigation.
A 10-year-old child was seriously injured and transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital. As of today, the child remains in the hospital and listed in stable condition.
Other injuries were minor, the police said.
Alcohol and drugs were not factors, police said, and seatbelts and child restraints were used.
The road was closed for nearly eight hours for processing.
Speed is believed to be a factor, police said.
Police remind drivers to stay alert for slowed or stopped traffic, especially during heavy traffic periods.
