A U.S. sailor assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3 was found dead Saturday as the result of a noncombat-related incident at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Navy officials said.

The sailor, whose name has not yet been made public, was found by co-workers in the Seabees’ equipment yard on Camp Lemonnier. The incident is under investigation.

“The Camp is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our shipmates,” Capt. Scott Hurst, commander of Camp Lemonnier, said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Sailor’s family during this difficult time.”

The sailor was a member of a forward deployed battalion of NMCB 3 and stationed at the Navy base in Rota, Spain. His detachment deployed to Djibouti, under U.S. Africa Command in support of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, in early February for a scheduled six-month deployment.
