RAF MILDENHALL, England — A U.S. Navy sailor died in a car crash last week near RAF Molesworth, England.

The car Petty Officer 3rd Class Andrew Campbell was driving left the B660 road and struck a tree at 8:47 p.m. Dec. 4, an official with Cambridgeshire police said. Campbell was the only occupant of the car, the official said.

Campbell died at the scene, according to a report on the website Cambridge News.

Campbell’s duty title was watch stander stationed at RAF Molesworth.

Officials with the 501st Combat Support Wing could not provide Campbell’s job description, hometown or information regarding funeral arrangements.

“Our hearts go out to the friends and family of Petty Officer Campbell during these difficult times,” wrote a spokesman for Molesworth in an email. “It is tragic to lose someone so suddenly — Petty Officer Campbell will be missed.”
