US conducts strikes against Iran for sixth consecutive day

U.S. military forces conducted a new wave of strikes against Iran on Thursday, U.S. Central Command said in an X post.

The U.S. used fighter jets, aerial drones and warships to strike “dozens of Iranian military targets such as coastal surveillance and air defense sites, military logistics infrastructure, and maritime capabilities,” according to CENTCOM. It marked the sixth consecutive day of attacks against Iran.

The Associated Press reported that U.S. targets included bridges in southern Iran. President Donald Trump had threatened earlier this week to expand U.S. strikes to include energy plants, bridges and other critical infrastructure.

CENTCOM said the strikes are in response to Iran’s recent targeting of commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and aimed at “further degrading Iranian military capabilities.”

The U.S. resumed a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday after launching strikes over the weekend in response to Iranian attacks on commercial ships transiting the waterway.

An evening wave of strikes against Iran on Wednesday targeted multiple locations, including command centers, air defense sites, missile and drone capabilities and coastal surveillance facilities, a CENTCOM news release said.

U.S. forces disabled the Curacao-flagged M/T Belma oil tanker Wednesday as it attempted to sail toward an Iranian port in the Arabian Gulf amid the resumption of the naval blockade.

U.S. Marines with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit also boarded the M/T Wen Yao in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday to verify compliance with the blockade, CENTCOM said in a post. As of Thursday, the U.S. has redirected three commercial vessels since the blockade resumed.

Both countries have accused each other of violating the memorandum of understanding signed last month to end the hostilities.

An interim peace deal reached last month has repeatedly been tested by attacks. Talks to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, halt Tehran’s nuclear program and reach a permanent end to the war that started Feb. 28 are on hold.
