U.S. Central Command forces have struck about 6,000 targets in Iran as of Thursday, the command said in its latest fact sheet about Operation Epic Fury.
Included in that total are more than 60 ships and 30 minelayers. The targeting of minelayers came as Iran’s new supreme leader said Thursday, in his first public statement since taking office, that the country would continue to restrict trade through the Strait of Hormuz.
The updated tallies for the 13th day of the conflict followed a CENTCOM update on Wednesday that reported a tally of over 5,500 targets struck and an update on Tuesday confirmed 16 minelayers had been destroyed.
Meanwhile, British officials said several U.S. personnel were injured in drone strikes that struck a base housing British and American troops in Irbil, Iraq, on Wednesday night. U.K. Lt. Gen. Nick Perry, said there were no British casualties, while the U.S. sustained some casualties but “nothing too serious.”
More drone strikes were also reported in Bahrain, Kuwait, Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
Seven U.S. service members have been killed in combat since the war’s start, while an eighth died of medical complications. The Pentagon said Tuesday over 140 service members had been wounded, but that most injuries were minor and 108 had already returned to duty.
Since the war began, at least 1,230 people have been killed in Iran, at least 480 in Lebanon and 12 in Israel, according to officials.
