HOHENFELS, Germany – A U.S. soldier died Tuesday from injuries he sustained last week in a head-on vehicle accident just outside of Hohenfels, an Army spokesman said.

The soldier, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday at Regensburg University Hospital in nearby Regensburg, Maj. Nick Sternberg said.

Sternberg, a spokesman for the Joint Multinational Readiness Center, identified the deceased as a male soldier assigned to Hohenfels.

An Army news release stated the soldier was in a two-vehicle accident with a German driver. The accident occurred Thursday, just before sunrise, in the town of Grossbissendorf, northwest of Hohenfels.

Both individuals were taken to the hospital in Regensburg. No information was available on the German driver.

Sternberg said German police are investigating the accident.
