Sony Electronics is asking customers to discontinue use of certain television models purchased before 1991 because the products have the potential to catch fire.

The Sony CRT color TVs manufactured prior to 1991 were sold at overseas Army and Air Force Exchange Service locations, according to an AAFES news release. Televisions purchased in the States are not affected, the release states.

“These Sony TVs contain a particular inner component that may suffer age deterioration following very long term usage and thus overheat,” according to the release.
