VICENZA, Italy — Italian police have suspended a volunteer-assisted search for an Aviano Air Base airman last seen a week ago.

Three days of searching for Staff Sgt. Halex Hale proved fruitless.

Capt. Michael Hertzog II, a spokesman for the 31st Fighter Wing, said the investigation into Hale’s disappearance would continue.

Hale, who is assigned to the wing, was last seen at a friend’s house in Sacile, a small town near the base where Hale lives, according to base authorities.

Hertzog said area hospitals had been canvassed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Aviano Air Base at (+39) 0434-30-7200.
