FRANKFURT — Wearing a white sombrero, cowboy boots and handing out lucky coins, William Boyd — better known to thousands of American kids as "Hopalong Cassidy" — arrived at Frankfurt Airport tonight and immediately turned his charm on a German audience.

The movie and television star posed with German youngsters, distributed the coins, chatted with German officials and said his trip was "purely personal" without professional aspects.

Boyd said his. party, which includes his attractive blond wife, is making an around-the-world trip. They are expected to arrive back in the U.S. in December.

Boyd disclosed he will spend Christmas Day with 350 youngsters in northern Ireland who, he said, "have adopted me."

He will spend a day or so in Frankfurt before going to Zurich, and then continuing to the Middle and Far East.
