GRAFENWÖHR, Germany — A 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment soldier has died of wounds suffered in Kandahar province, Afghanistan.

First Lt. Daren M. Hidalgo, 24, of Waukesha, Wis., died Sunday of injuries he suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device, a Department of Defense news release said.

U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwöhr spokesman Franz Zeilmann said there will be a memorial for Hidalgo, who was a member of 3rd Squadron, 2nd SCR, at Vilseck’s Rose Barracks Cavalry Chapel on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
