Europe briefs: Vacation traffic surge expected in Italy
Drivers should expect major delays on highways this weekend and over the next week as Italians begin their summer vacations.
Italy’s largest national motorway network company, Autostrade per L’Italia, is predicting that about 10 million cars will take to the highways this weekend, according to the company’s statement reported by the Italian news service Agencia Giornalistica Italia.
Saturday and Sunday are expected to be the most critical of heavy traffic days, followed by Monday morning, AGI reported. News media have reported that beaches and resorts are the top Italian and foreign tourist destinations, followed by the mountains.
West Point gets its biggest contribution
WEST POINT — A Florida executive has made the largest financial contribution to the U.S. Military Academy in its 200-year history.
West Point’s Association of Graduates announced Monday that Bill Foley, a member of the Class of 1967, has committed $15 million to the academy. Officials say the funds will be used for completion of the Michie Stadium Athletic Complex, an indoor athletic training facility.
