Europe briefs: USAREUR logisticians to gather in Heidelberg
HEIDELBERG, Germany — U.S. Army Europe will hold a logisticians conference April 19-20 at Patrick Henry Village.
The conference is aimed at Department of the Army civilians in the career fields of ammunition, maintenance management, quality assurance and reliability, supply management and transportation management.

Memorial to be held for Naples petty officerA memorial service for Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew A. Schaller of the Naval Computers and Telecommunications Station Naples, Italy, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Naval Support Activity Support Site chapel.
Schaller was found dead in his on-base barracks room March 17.
Italian officials, who have jurisdiction in the case, have not released details on the cause of death.
Student essays earn them a spot on ‘Oprah’Two Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Europe students are among 50 finalists in Oprah Winfrey’s National High School Essay Contest and will head to Chicago next month for a taping of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” according to a DODDS news release.
The students are Hayley Heineken from SHAPE High School in Belgium and Laura Waxman from Ramstein High School in Germany.
The winners and their parent or legal guardian will be flown to Chicago for an April 25 taping of the show, which is expected to air in May.
The finalists’ essays were selected from 50,000 submissions and were written around the book “Night,” by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Elie Wiesel. The book is a memoir about Wiesel’s survival in Nazi death camps.
