The commander of Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany will be the new commander of the 49th Fighter Wing at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, the military announced.

Air Force Col. David Goldfein, commander of the 52nd Fighter Wing at Spangdahlem, will take over the 49th sometime this summer, said Capt. Tom Crosson, an Air Force spokesman at Spangdahlem. The Pentagon announced Goldfein’s new assignment earlier this month.

Goldfein, who has been selected for brigadier general, will replace Brig. Gen. Kurt Cichowski, who has been selected for major general and has been named the new deputy chief of staff for strategy, plans and assessment, Multi-National Force-Iraq, U.S. Central Command, in Baghdad.

USAFE chief receives Federal 100 awardThe commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe has been recognized as one of the top 100 leaders who have made the largest contribution to federal information technology.

Gen. Tom Hobbins was honored with the Federal 100 award on Monday, according to a news release.

The award pays tribute to those in federal service who have contributed to the development, acquisition and management of federal information technology. Judges select winners from various areas of federal service.

Hobbins was selected based on his previous job as the Air Force’s chief of warfighting integration and chief information officer. Before taking command of U.S. Air Forces in Europe last year, he served as the Air Force’s senior communications officer.

Get jazzed for concert at Naples High SchoolNaples High School in Italy is hosting “An Evening of Jazz” on Thursday night.

The school’s jazz ensemble and the combined Allied Joint Force Command/Sixth Fleet jazz bands will be performing in the high school auditorium starting at 7 p.m.

Music will include pieces by Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington and Glenn Miller.

Admission is free and is open to all base identification card holders.
