The European Rodeo Cowboy Association 2006 season is under way, with the next competitions at Hanau.

Rodeo events are scheduled for May 27, May 28, and again the following weekend, June 3 and June 4.

Competitions include both rough-stock events and timed events.

Rough-stock events include bareback riding, saddle-bronc riding and bull riding. Timed events include roping, wild horse race, barrel racing and rescue racing.

The ERCA was founded about 30 years ago by a transplanted American, Alan M. Jacob, according to the ERCA Web site. During that time, the association has grown to 500 members, with an estimated 30,000 cowboys — including many U.S. military personnel — competing in rodeos.

1st MP Company shut down after 89 yearsWüRZBURG, Germany — The Army’s oldest military police company called it a day on Wednesday, as the 1st Infantry Division’s 1st Military Police Company inactivated during a ceremony at Leighton Barracks.

The company — which is inactivating as part of Army transformation — has been operating for 89 years, according to a 1st ID release. Since World War I, the company has served in every major American conflict, and was awarded its own distinctive unit crest after the first World War.

More than 3,900 pieces of equipment were turned in as part of the company’s inactivation, according to company commander Capt. Timothy Mahoney.

Naples pool opening delayed for two weeksThe scheduled pool opening at the Naval Support Activity Naples, Italy, Carney Park recreation area has been delayed by two weeks.

The outdoor pool and waterslides were supposed to open over the Memorial Day weekend but are now scheduled to open June 10, as the facility is still undergoing its off-season maintenance.

The outdoor pool at the Support Site housing area will be open over the holiday weekend as will be the indoor pool at the Capodichino base.
