The European Rodeo Cowboy Association 2006 season is under way, with the next competitions at Hanau.

Rodeo events are scheduled for May 27, May 28, and again the following weekend, June 3 and June 4.

Competitions include both rough-stock events and timed events.

Rough-stock events include bareback riding, saddle-bronc riding and bull riding. Timed events include roping, wild horse race, barrel racing and rescue racing.

The ERCA was founded about 30 years ago by a transplanted American, Alan M. Jacob, according to the ERCA Web site. During that time, the association has grown to 500 members, with an estimated 30,000 cowboys — including many U.S. military personnel — competing in rodeos.
