The city of Wiesbaden, Germany — home of the 1st Armored Division — has donated a slew of tickets and coupons for area attractions and events to Old Ironsides soldiers returning from Iraq.
Gift certificates include everything from tickets to the local ballet and shows “Queen” and “Irish Soul” to coupons for visits to area health spas.
The mayor of Wiesbaden, Hildebrand Diehl, who presented the gifts last week, said they were intended to help welcome the soldiers back to Germany and to help the soldiers settle back into the community, according to an Army announcement.
Army officials say the tickets will be distributed through the division’s community relations department.
Cocaine conviction
AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy — An airman assigned to the 31st Operations Support Squadron was found guilty of cocaine use in a court-martial last week.
Airman 1st Class Raymond Landis was sentenced to a reduction in rank to E-1, four months of confinement and a bad-conduct discharge. He had also been charged with larceny and unlawful entry, but those charges were dismissed in a pretrial agreement.
Lewis is the sixth airman at Aviano to be court-martialed as a result of a drug sting last December. A dozen airmen were initially under suspicion and several more are awaiting trials.
