A soldier who died in Iraq on Sunday as a member of the Vilseck, Germany-based 2nd (Stryker) Cavalry Regiment has been identified by the Pentagon.

Spc. Randy W. Pickering, 31, of Bovey, Minn., died in Baghdad of injuries sustained in a noncombat-related incident, according to a news release.

Pickering was assigned to the regiment’s Regimental Support Squadron.

The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation, officials say.

Lakenheath airman gets jail time for drug useRAF LAKENHEATH, England — A 48th Fighter Wing airman has been sentenced to 45 days behind bars for drug use, Air Force officials said Tuesday.

Airman 1st Class Richard Cunningham, of the 48th Operations Support Squadron, pleaded guilty Monday in a special court-martial to two counts of using Ecstasy and cocaine on or between May 28 and June 4, according to an RAF Lakenheath press release.

Cunningham also was sentenced to a reduction in grade and forfeiture of pay, the release states.

Approximately seven RAF Lakenheath airmen were sentenced earlier this year for either using or distributing narcotics on the base.
