BAUMHOLDER, GERMANY — A Baumholder-based soldier with the 1st Armored Division’s 2nd Brigade died Sept. 6 in Ramadi, Iraq, from injuries incurred during a security patrol, according to a Defense Department news release issued Monday.

Spc. John A. Carroll, 26, of Ponca City, Okla., was injured when he came in contact with enemy forces using small-arms fire during a foot patrol in Ramadi, the release states.

Carroll was assigned to the 2nd Brigade’s 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment. He is the 18th soldier from the 1st AD’s 2nd Brigade to be killed in Iraq since April.
