5 p.m. Saturday, July 11, Japan time: U.S. bases on Okinawa resumed seasonal Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness 4 at 4 p.m. Saturday, with Typhoon Bavi hurtling out of the area.
Bavi remains a Category 1-equivalent typhoon. Expect gusty winds and occasional showers for the next couple of days as Bavi keeps moving northwest toward eastern China and Bavi’s backside keeps lashing Okinawa. At 3 p.m., Bavi was about 285 miles west of Kadena Air Base, tracking northwest at 23 mph and holding steady at 90-mph sustained winds and 115-mph gusts at center.
Joint Typhoon Warning Center’s latest forecast track shows Bavi having split the difference between Miyako and Ishigaki in southwestern Japan, and headed northwest toward eastern China.
Taiwan and the Philippines are also feeling Bavi’s will; typhoon warnings remain posted for most counties and metropolitan areas in the northern half of Taiwan as it heads for landfall 130 miles south of Shanghai in eastsern China at mid-morning Sunday. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals remain raised in the northern Philippines as well.
