1 a.m. Thursday, March 12, Guam time: Tropical Depression Nuri continues moving northeast, on a trajectory taking it west of Guam late Friday evening as naught more than a tropical depression, according to Joint Typhoon Warning Center’s latest forecast track.

At 10 p.m. Guam time, Nuri was about 495 miles west-southwest of Andersen Air Force Base, moving northeast at 11 mph and holding steady at 35-mph sustained winds and 45-mph gusts. U.S. bases on Guam and the island itself remain in seasonal Condition of Readiness 4.

JTWC’s forecast calls for Nuri to peak briefly as a tropical storm late Thursday evening, then gradually diminish as it approaches the Marianas, passing about 105 miles west-northwest of Naval Base Guam at about 10 p.m. Friday.

Heavy rain and gusts up to 45 mph are expected at the weekend’s onset, particularly over Tinian and Saipan, which remain under a flood watch. Guam could expect between 2 to 4 inches of rain and Saipan as much as 8 inches Friday into Saturday.
