A Guam soldier died Friday following a roadside bomb blast in Afghanistan, the military announced.

Pfc. Jaysine Pilar Petree, 19, of Yigo, was a motor transport operator serving with the 109th Transportation Company, home based out of Fort Richardson, Alaska, according to her Army.mil profile.

Petree’s remains were scheduled to be transported back to Dover Air Force Base, Del., late Sunday.

She had joined the military 19 months ago, The Guam Pacific Daily News reported. She spoke to relatives last week and had planned to be back in Guam in March, according to the report.

Guam Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo issued a statement Sunday offering condolences to Petree’s friends and family.
