YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — The annual Relay For Life that raises money for the American Cancer Society will kick off at the Ikego Housing Area track at 11 a.m. Saturday.
During the 24-hour event, 33 teams will have at least one member walking or running the track at all times.
So far, more than $38,000 has been raised this year, according to Ed Fogell, the Relay For Life Yokosuka event director. To donate, go to Yokosuka's Relay for Life page or call 090-9391-7986.
Event organizers are encouraging people to come out and support the teams and participate in activities, including a Bark For Life dog walk starting at 4 p.m.
There will also be food booths, a Hawaiian band and Polynesian dancers.
“The highlight of the night will be a Luminaria Ceremony where we will line the track with paper lanterns, each one honoring someone who died of cancer,” Fogell said. “It’s a beautiful sight.”
