There were missiles, female soldiers carrying assault rifles, very exuberant spectators and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s salute as the 65th anniversary of his country’s founding was celebrated Monday with a military parade.

A collection of screen grabs captured by the Associated Press from the live TV broadcast covered the fantastic Pyongyang celebration.

Thousands of choreographed participants dressed in particularly colored garb united to display massive North Korean flags and the numeral 65.

The military horns played, the soldiers marched in unison and there were also tributes to departed leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

In July, North Korea also celebrated the 60th anniversary of the armistice with a military parade.

Last year during a military parade there were some military analysts who questioned the authenticity of the missiles on display, as Leo Shane III reported.
