Dozens of aircraft and hundreds of personnel from the Marine Corps air station in Iwakuni, Japan, will begin a month of training on Guam starting Sunday as part of an effort to reduce air traffic noise around bases in Japan.

The aviation training relocation program will bring 36 Marine Corps aircraft and about 900 people to the U.S. territory from the base near Hiroshima, where noise has caused public complaints and lawsuits in recent years, according to figures reported by Andersen Air Force Base, which announced the training.

The U.S. and Japan agreed in March to shift 10 training events planned this year from bases at Iwakuni, Misawa and Okinawa to Guam and from Japanese self-defense force bases as part of the relocation program.
