SEOUL — The USS George Washington Carrier Strike Group is scheduled to arrive in South Korea on Wednesday for a regular port call.

U.S. Forces Korea spokesman Jason Chudy said the strike group would be in South Korea for a “short” visit that would last through at least the country’s Armed Forces Day on Oct. 1. The guided-missile cruiser USS Cowpens and the guided-missile destroyers USS Mustin and USS Wayne E. Meyer will join the aircraft carrier for a scheduled visit to Pusan. The guided-missile destroyers USS Curtis Wilbur and USS McCampbell are scheduled to visit Pyeongtaek.

The strike group, which is forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, and has approximately 7,000 crewmembers, is on a patrol in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. Wayne E. Meyer, homeported in San Diego, Calif., is on a routine deployment of the western Pacific.
